Bernhard Behrend, Esq.
Mediator
Bernie Behrend did not arrive at mediation. He helped build it in Western Pennsylvania. With over 40 years of mediation experience, he is one of the most seasoned mediators in the Pittsburgh area and one of the few who has practiced across virtually every formal dispute arena in the region: federal court, bankruptcy court, FINRA, the EEOC, the US Postal Service, and the Realtor's Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh.
For 25 years he was an adjunct faculty member at Duquesne University, teaching conflict resolution and alternative dispute resolution. For more than 15 years he has trained the next generation of mediators. He is a founding member of Mediators Beyond Borders and a past president of the Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania.
When Bernie sits across from a dispute, he brings four decades of accumulated judgment about how people make decisions, what they actually need, and how to move a conversation toward a different outcome.

Bernhard's Philosophy
A Mediation Process Built Around the Dispute
❝ Having a conflict or dispute requires a decision about what to do next. That decision is enhanced by how clear you are about your situation, what you want to accomplish, and the possibilities moving forward. Mediation provides the opportunity to make the best decision possible — through a confidential conversation with the help of a mediator who has no stake in the outcome. ❞
